It’s sometimes hard for us to step out of our element and go for something new and uncharted. We get so comfortable and used to seeing ourselves in certain silhouettes, colors, and fabrics. It becomes very difficult and almost impossible to put ourselves in the shoes of a look we see on the red carpet. However, with these tips, you may finally find that courage to have fun and be innovative with fashion and recreating your look!

Colors are fun and expressive. You should definitely not be scared to have color in your wardrobe, and the best way to decide on if you like a color or not is to try it on! If you are a brunette, or have darker coloring, warm hues of red and orange look fantastic. If you haven’t already, try on a dress in fire-engine red and coral and you’ll be amazed at how great you look! If when you put on a certain color, people first see your eyes, it is a good color on you! But, if they are looking at your lips, then it is not the best of hues for you. Try pastel blues and greens if you are a blonde and metallic gold and silver always look great on any coloring.

When completing your look and finding the perfect accessories, make sure that you have your dress style in mind. Trying accessories on with the dress you plan to wear is the best way, but if you don’t have your dress yet and can’t wait to shop for accessories, just follow these simple rules. There should only be ONE focal piece in an outfit; either your dress is the main focus or your accessories should pop, but not both. If you are opting for a solid color dress or a simple silhouette, then don’t be afraid to get some colorful jewels or chunky bracelets. If your dress has embellishments on it, such as ruffles or beading, then you may want to stick to simple and smaller jewelry.
If you are looking for star quality for your special occasion dress, try looking for styles that do not define your age group. If you are going to prom, try to look for a silhouette that you would think is more grown-up. It is actually very sexy for a younger girl to wear a grown-up sophisticated dress. The same goes for women in their 40′s or 50′s; older women in stuffy up-do’s and gowns made for their age group tend to look even older than they are. Older women can try modern and relaxed hair-styles and dress silhouettes to give them a fresh and updated look, leaving them feeling 10-20 years younger.

Always try something new and make sure to have fun with your fashion. Push the limits and experience your creativity and fashion innovation. Learn to embrace your body and not to hide it. A larger woman, like Queen Latifah, knows how to embrace what she has and to hug her curves rather than hide them in a potato sack gown. If you are uncomfortable hugging your curves, try a body slimmer underneath your dress for added control and smooth lines.
Do not get the fabulous dress and then wear your hair the same as you do when you go to school or work. The wrong hair-do can make or break an entire outfit. If you are trying to make a gown look more casual or daytime, then try a slicked back pony tail or a messy bun. But, if you are going to a special evening event, make sure your hairstyle is more polished. For an easy fix, just make a fancier version of your everyday hair and add an accessory like a brooch or ribbon.
