Bridesmaid, Prom, Evening Fashion Resource and Trends
Versailles, over 2 centuries ago, was the Fashion epicenter of Europe showcasing the most unique and breathtaking designs. The Royal Court of Versailles was always the best-dressed in luxurious fabrics and exquisite taste. There were no prices too expensive if it meant dressing well. As Karl Lagerfeld points out, “One had to dazzle to impose [one’s presence].”
Fastes de Cour & Cérémonies Royales” (“Court Pomp & Royal Ceremony”) retraces European court costumes from 1650 to 1800 and opened to the public on March 31, 2009. The exhibition, which runs through June 28, is sponsored by Chanel.

The feat of getting all of these costumes together is extraordinary. The curator has said that it took about 14 years to compiles the contents of the exhibit and it may be the last time we have the opportunity to get a glimpse of the Versailles fashion. The clothing and accessories are so fragile and most have never traveled before. The robe of George III of England is the “Crown Jewel” of the exhibit.

Personally, I love costumes and the history behind them. It brings so much more depth to fashion, than just the trend and retail price. I loved the article written about the exhibition in WWD and I just wanted to share some of the photos with you.

I just checked out DressCodeFormal.com and linked to your blog. How funny is it that I just finished talking about this exhibition with my friend and how we wished we lived during this time period so we can wear these dresses. Then she reminded me that I was getting married next year so it’s my one opportunity to wear a big puff ball of a dress and have a ten mile long train…so I think I might! :p
